Strengthening your academic vocabulary skills

Dear Students:

I hope that you enjoyed your three day weekend!

As an instructor, I have witnessed many students struggle with their vocabulary skills.  At times, some find it difficult to answer test questions, because the vocabulary found in the questions is too challenging (for them).  Also, when asking questions from the textbook aloud, students have oftentimes asked for clarification.

What steps are you taking to ensure that your academic vocabulary is grade-appropriate?

If your vocabulary is stagnant, you will find that your writing is not growing.  Please review the following information:


Weekly, you should:

1. Try and learn five new words per week.
2. Write these words into sentences
3. Use these words in your daily writing activities
